Calling all incoming residence students! Never lived on your own before? Unsure of what you’ll need and what you won’t? Look no further, for I present to you, the Top 10 Must-Haves for Residence Life:
- A fan: You might be there for more cold months than warm months, but trust me, you’ll enjoy having a cool breeze through your room in September and April
- A kettle: Whether you’re craving some Mr. Noodles while studying, cramming some oatmeal in before your 8:30, or cozying up with a hot chocolate before bed, a kettle will meet all your needs 24/7
- Slippers: Like I said, you’ll be there for more cold months than warm, and what better way to cozy up on a Sunday than to slip into some cozy footwear while you do your laundry and plan for the week ahead!
- Laundry hamper: Speaking of laundry, you’ll need a cute bin to carry all your stuff in for people to compliment when you meet a friend in the hall along the way!
- Mattress protector: So your mom can be assured that the bedbugs won’t bite. And on top of your mattress protector you will need…
- A mattress topper! Your back will thank me the night before an exam (and so will all your friends that come sit on your bed because it’s comfier than theirs). And when you must leave your bed for class, you will want…
- A thermos! For the coffee that gets you through those 8:30s
- A lamp: Wake up to a soft light that you can turn on right by your bed to start your day off well!
- A squishmallow: This one is for your mental health during midterm and exam season. Trust me, it might be the most important one on the list!
- Wall calendar: So you can manage the stress of everything going on in your life by color-coding it!
This is only 10 of many must-haves that I have gathered from my personal experience and fellow students, but the sky is the limit for whatever you need (or perhaps the trunk of your car). We can’t to have you (and your stuff) on campus!
