Living in residence is one of the best parts of life at Mount A! From house events to living with your friends, the residence experience will undoubtedly create many amazing memories. Packing for life in residence can be tough and despite the endless packing lists found on Google, you will probably forget something. Aside from the basics, there are a few key items you should definitely bring to enhance your experience in residence at MtA!

1. SLIPPERS

Trust me when I say slippers are ESSENTIAL! When you make friends on different floors, you will definitely be travelling up and down the stairs to visit. Slippers make walking around in residence easy, especially in the winter when the floors are wet with snow. Plus, no matter what anyone says, it’s totally fashion forward to wear your slippers to Jennings for supper.

2. Colourful clothes!

Each residence at Mount A has their own colours and it’s crucial to pack colour coordinated outfits to show off your res spirit! Competitions within and across residences can get heated – you need to make sure you’re prepared to show off your res pride. On top of that, be sure to pack any fun clothes for events, such as neon clothes for blacklight events (Silent Disco!!!) and extra plain white tees are great to have, too!

3. Mugs, dishes, and utensils

All residences have kitchens and cookware available to students and you never know when you (or your friends) might cook up some study snacks! Plus, some residences host events with snacks and try to be as eco-friendly as possible, a.k.a. bring your own dishes. I recommend packing dishes with covers, a couple forks and spoons, and cups/mugs.

4. A tall, narrow hamper

Depending on which residence you live in and whether or not you have a roommate, you will have varying amounts of floor space available to you. Tall, narrow hampers take up less floor space. Bonus: if it’s flexible, it can fit into smaller spaces in the room!

5. Bluetooth speaker

Whether you’re having friends in your room on a night out or need some music for a study session, you might want to have a speaker in your room! It isn’t essential, but if you have one, I would recommend packing it. It will be more useful than you can imagine!

Hopefully this list helps you remember a few items when you’re packing for residence life at Mount A! Be sure to check out the suggested packing list on Mount A’s website and you can even talk to current students to ask for more tips & tricks!
