Your Official MtA Packing List

So! You’ve accepted your offer of admission, you’ve found out which residence you’re going to be living in, and you’ve (hopefully) chosen your classes for your first year. What’s next? PACKING!! Now this is arguably the most exciting, and the most stressful part of coming to university… you get to start over with a whole new room, maybe go on a couple shopping sprees, and you have full creative control over everything! If you’re anything like me, reading that sentence probably filled you with excitement, anticipation, and a fair amount of panic.

Well, panic no more! I’ve put together a list of everything I brought/wish I brought to university in my first year. Now you don’t need absolutely everything on this list – but hopefully it will give you some ideas!

  • Bedding (pretty self-explanatory… I’m a duvet/duvet cover kind of person, but my friend had a comforter and loved it so pick whatever you’d like!)
  • Pillow(s)
  • Main blanket
  • Sheets
  • Throw blanket (or two)
  • Throw pillow (or two)
  • Bedside lamp (some of the dorm rooms can get kind of dark…)
  • Twinkle/fairy lights (we <3 aesthetic lighting)
  • Slippers (nothing grosser than walking around a residence in bare feet)
  • Fan (Sackville can get HOT!)
  • 3M hooks (you’re not allowed to poke holes in the walls)
  • Winter coat (Sackville can also get COLD)
  • Rain jacket (hurricanes are no joke)
  • Rain boots (see above)
  • Hat, mitts, scarf (again… Sackville wind BITES)
  • Photos (gotta decorate your walls somehow!)
  • Plants (but if you’re anything like me, fake plants might be the way to go… I can’t keep a plant alive to save my life)
  • Snacks (also pretty self-explanatory)
  • Shower shoes (if you’re sharing a shower with other people, you won’t want to be barefoot!)
  • Tote bags (you need to aesthetically carry your farmers market goods somehow!)
  • Fanny pack/belt bag (the best way to carry your money and cards when you’re on the go **cough cough** at the bar **cough cough**)
  • Insurance information (that way you can directly have your prescriptions charged at the pharmacy)
  • Ice skates (how else will you skate on swan pond in the winter?)
  • Storage bins (helpful to store the things you won’t want on a day-to-day basis)

Now, this list is a basic one, but hopefully it will help ease some of your fears, and make you feel a bit more in control of your packing and shopping!
