Why You Need a Thousand Plants

For those of you in Sackville, you know buying a plant at Blooms is so close and easy.

So why don’t you have a plant buddy yet?

Plants have tons of benefits! Some even help you with school!

Plants improve your mental health! There has been research showing that people who live around nature feel happier than those who do not! Plants help you feel a little more outside rather than all cooped up in your dorm room! There is also a benefit for your air quality since plants release oxygen into the air and take up the carbon dioxide. More oxygen allows your body to work more effectively, making your brain clearer! Fun fact: Some casinos pump in oxygen so that you feel more awake and keep going even longer! Some scents could also be beneficial to your mental health! Look around and see what works best for you!

Plants can improve your productivity! Not just plants, but personalization of your workspace. Pictures, decorations, and reminders of what you are working towards help improve productivity. A desk without anything on it can be dull and uninteresting, if you are going to be at your desk most of the day, shouldn’t you make it fun? Your bright green buddy can give you ‘someone’ to vent to about your roadblocks.

Plants can give us self-worth! Taking care of a plant holds you accountable for something other than yourself. Seeing a plant’s leaves wilt, giving it a sip of water, and seeing her big and strong the next morning is so rewarding. I find that being responsible for something other than myself helps my mental health, even if it is just a cactus to water once a month!

Did you know, plants can decrease that winter dry skin?! Since plants are hanging out all day absorbing the water you are giving them, they are also releasing water. In fact, plants release almost all of the water they take in! This is great because dry air can lead to dry mouth and if you struggle to fall asleep at night due to dry air, plants in your bedroom will help! One study showed that having a plant indoors decreases the occurrence of dry skin, colds, sore throats, and dry coughs! Keep that sick away!

Plants are pretty! Why wouldn’t you want to have something nice to look at all the time. You can buy plants witdifferent colors. You can buy pots with animals or faces or your favorite color! Plants are décor so it really is a win all around when you buy a plant.

Here are a few of my favorite plants:

Aloe: A great plant that is easy to take care of, does not love sustained direct sunlight plus it is great to have in the summer for all those sunburns!

Snake Plants: These guys do not need a lot of light or water so it is a great one if you are busy! They produce oxygen at night instead of during the day so if you are needing some good clean oxygen in the evenings, this could be the one for you

Rattlesnake plant: This plant opens big in the morning and closes up at night telling you it is time to hit the hay. They do not need a lot of light, indirect light is best, so they are good for a desk!

Hopefully, you will get a plant buddy to keep you company soon!
