What My Move-In Day Looked Like

As an international student, move-in-day was very nerve wracking as not only did I not know anyone in Sackville, I did not know anyone in Canada! This was an entirely new experience. If you’re in residence and you’re going to have a roommate, I would definitely recommend contacting them ahead of time! To be honest, I was too nervous to reach out to my roommate to say hi but thankfully she reached out to me, and I am so grateful that she did. We got to know each other throughout the summer which made move-in day a little bit less scary because I knew at least one person on campus and knew she would arrive just a few days after me (she is Canadian so she moved in a couple days after I arrived at Mount A).

For the actual day I moved in my dorm in Campbell, my parents were there to help me settle in. We had done some shopping for basics before arriving on campus such as for bedding, pillows, towels, a laundry basket etc. You can check out the blog post about residence room necessities for a list of essentials to get before moving in! I also got some decorations so I would feel more at home and put lots of pictures of my friends and family on my desk and walls. I also bought a few other essentials at the Independent and Jean Coutu that I had forgotten to buy beforehand.

While I was moving-in, I met other international students in Campbell who I quickly became friends with (I am still friends with them!) which also helped to not stress as much. We ended up spending most of our time together during International Orientation and Orientation week which brought us closer pretty fast.

Moving in will probably feel a little overwhelming but don’t worry, there will be lots of people to help you navigate around campus as well as help you with things that need to be done as a new Mountie, such as getting your new student card!

I know this might seem scary, but it also is a very exciting new chapter of your life!

Welcome to Mount A!
