Spending weekends in a new town is a great opportunity to explore your new surroundings and have fun! For a small town, Sackville has so much to offer right at your fingertips! With all of its charms, it is not difficult to fill up your days in this university town.
Socialize in a Café
After spending all week studying and working hard, unwind at one of Sackville’s endearing cafés! Sackville has many café options, including Aida’s, Cranewood, Black Duck, and more! Grab a bite to eat or sip on a delicious coffee while enjoying some company and your surroundings. At Aida’s, I would recommend the hashbrown sandwich or wrap as well as the macarons. Cranewood’s classic breakfast sandwich and homemade baked goods always hit the spot, and the haddock burger at Black Duck is the perfect treat. Although visiting a café seems self-explanatory, we often forget to indulge in these simple self-care activities whilst immersed in a new and busy environment.
Get Moving
Why not step off campus and explore a little bit of Sackville on foot? Roaming a new town on foot can be a great way to get moving and situate yourself! If you enjoy nature, wander the renowned waterfowl park, and take in the serene, picturesque nature. The MtA Fitness Centre is another great way to get active! Your student ID grants you access to the facility and all of its equipment. After completing some reps in the gym, you can always attend a dance class with the MtA dance society, or a fitness or yoga class (no experience needed!). Getting active in various ways on a regular basis can be the perfect way to keep you out of a slump and promote your overall health.
Explore Residence Life
If you live in residence, chances are there is always something fun going on! Check if your residence has any activities planned or check out who is hanging out in the lounge. Visiting friends in other residences is also a fun way get to know others in your MtA community. You can organize a movie night, play games, bake, order pizza, and more with friends! Living in residence can truly enhance your university experience and expose you to new lifelong friendships!
Movie Night!
The Vogue is Sackville’s infamous movie theatre, and its character will keep you coming back for more. Going to the movies is a beloved weekend activity in Sackville, and you won’t want to miss the films and popcorn at The Vogue.
Visit the “Outskirts”
Sackville’s neighbouring towns also have a lot to offer providing you have the means to travel there. Moncton is a short 25–30-minute drive and offers countless restaurants and shopping opportunities. Travel to Shediac for a beach day in the early fall or late spring. Or (my favourite), head to Aulac to visit Trueman Blueberry Farms for some delectable homemade ice cream!
These are just a few examples of some of the things I have discovered during my time at MtA, however, there are many more adventures awaiting! If you discover something new and fun to do, let your fellow Mountie know! It is important to reward yourself with these activities at the end of a long week – you deserve it!!
