Why wait until a week before your departure for Sackville to enlighten yourself on the life one could expect when they begin their academic semester? Here is the ultimate suggestion! Why not start right here and right now? You picked Mount Allison for a reason, and you know that reason better than your friends and family! So, why wait to experience the fun and excitement that awaits you in two months’ time, when you could begin it right at this moment? Many of you may not currently be in Sackville and may have never had the opportunity to truly experience life on campus. I, for starters, had never travelled to the Maritime provinces and had no knowledge of the location or its people, NADA! I applied, saw a few pictures of the residence rooms and campus buildings and well, that was it for me. You might feel a tad bit nervous now, but you are not alone and will not be for long, as I can assure you that the Orientation team will come to the rescue just as it did for me last summer. Everything you need to know is just a click away; so why wait? Follow these few tips to feel more connected to the campus lifestyle and be prepared for what awaits you.

Questions about Orientation? What, When, Where, Why???

Heck! I did not even know what Orientation would look like for me at Mount A when I was preparing to come here last summer. At this moment, if you still do not know what Orientation at Mount A is, I do not blame you; I can relate to your feelings of uncertainty. This time last year, I was just as puzzled, with a whole bunch of questions about…

  1. Should I really join the Orientation page and view the uploaded posts?
  1. How can it really help me when I get there eventually?
  1. Can I skip through the stories uploaded on the Orientation Instagram page?
  1. I am too nervous; I do not think I should email one of the Orientation facilitators …hmm… what if they do not reply to my email?
  1. Should I take time off from watching TV and spend some time attending the Orientation zoom seminars and connect with Orientation leaders?

If any of these five questions and thoughts ran through your mind this past month, we are sailing in the same boat, mate. How did I pull my socks and work my way through these questions and thoughts? I began by…

  1. taking a gander at the Orientation page on the website to gain more information on Orientation at Mount A which you will be able to find right here. I know the information can be overwhelming but trust me, it is good to be prepared.
  1. Understanding, upon learning more about a typical Orientation week at Mount A, that this an event which my fellow peers and mentors have taken a lot of effort to organize and execute and I, as a student, should appreciate their efforts and be a team player by participating in the activities that have been planned for me to gain additional information on the place I will be calling home for the next four years of my life.
  1. Following the Orientation page on Instagram; The O-page on Instagram is more than likely to catch your undivided attention. It sure did educate me everyday last year on who my O-leaders were, allowed me to watch stories on student takeovers, and even gave me a chance to view a video tour of the campus. So, trust me, not following the Instagram orientation page is a MISTAKE as that video tour on Instagram surely made it easier to find my way around campus when I arrived here in August.
  1. Shooting an email to one of the many cheerful Orientation facilitators available on the Orientation website to feel a sense of belonging and gain some student perspective. There might even be a possibility that you could plan to meet up with your Orientation Facilitator acquaintance once you arrive in Sackville.
  1. Staying up to date with Orientation seminars, as this is a platform where you can gain insightful information on campus lifestyle and feel more connected with your fellow peers and faculty.
