Summer Courses

Summer courses do sound like a bummer, but really, they can allow you to make your time at school what you want it to be. This year, MtA is offering so many online summer courses that we’ve never seen offered in the summer before.

I am a huge fan of summer courses because they let you learn new and interesting things, without causing you to overload in a semester or miss out on a degree requirement. Usually, distribution classes are offered in the summer, which is a good way to focus on a class out of your ordinary instead of pushing it to the side.

I have taken three of my distribution courses from MtA in the summer: Intro to Sociology, Intro to Political Science and a first-year History course. Most of which I did enjoying the sun with my dog.

It likely won’t surprise you that many other schools also offer summer courses, and many schools are offering a surplus of online summer courses due to the pandemic. Last year the Maple League -which consists of Acadia, St. FX, Bishop’s and MtA- began an agreement for online and remote course offerings. So perhaps you are an upper-year student who has completed their distribution credits, but nothing is inspiring on MtA’s website, maybe checking out the others would be a good starting spot.

Summer courses have allowed me to take a semester off and work abroad, switch schools, minor in an Art while majoring in Science, and graduate within four years. Summer courses give you the flexibility to work at your own pace, but once you get into a routine with your summer job, it is easy to fall into place with your online course.

This spring and summer, MtA is offering more than 50 courses to students, check out https://www.mta.ca/sst/ to see if any of them fit for your life and degree!
