My Favourite Travel Memories of the Maritimes

When I came to Mount A, I knew I would be able to get to know the small, close-knit town of Sackville but I didn’t realize how easy it was going to be to explore the Maritimes! Residences often put on free trips organized by the social chairs which are always a great opportunity to go for an adventure with friends.

One of my favourite residence trips was to Nova Scotia for skiing! My best friend, who was an exchange student from England and had never tried skiing before, came along and we spent the day learning how to ski and going to get hot chocolate for a ski break. I also loved going with my residence to a nearby apple orchard and picking apples all day. We ended up making a video of the day because the orchard was so picturesque and spent hours trying different types of apples. This year we went to a shopping mall and trampoline park in the nearby city which was a great stress reliever from a busy week!

The international centre also offers many day trips throughout the year. From Halifax to Charlottetown, I was able to see new provinces for free. I, of course, did all of the tourist-y things, like dressing up as Anne of Green Gables and trying Cows ice cream, but the best part was all of the new friends I made on the trips. One of my happiest memories was the bus ride back to Sackville when someone connected their phone to the bus’s speaker which ended up in us all singing along the whole ride home.

Mount A is a special place because we are a close-knit community in small town Sackville, but we have so many opportunities to explore the neighbouring provinces and New Brunswick’s hidden gems! I can’t wait to keep checking off adventures from my Maritimes bucket list!
