Hey there! Looking to learn more about the volunteers behind the scenes at Orientation? The Orientation Committee (O-comm) is a team of student leaders that help plan, organize, and run Orientation events. Committee is subdivided into 5 teams who take the lead on specific areas of Orientation: Education & Programming, Entertainment, Logistics, Health & Wellness, and Spirit.
Over the next few weeks, I’m going to introduce each subcommittee here so you can get a sense of the team and how amazing your Orientation week (O-week) is going to be! Let’s get it started – meet the Logistics subcommittee!
Lucy (she/her)
- Hometown: Halifax, Nova Scotia
- Year: 4
- Program: BA Honours Economics, minor French
- Favourite part of O-week: The energy! I am not a morning person by any means, but there's something about the energy on campus during Orientation that makes you want to wake up at 7am just so you don't miss anything. Everyone is looking out for each other and so friendly, and it makes for a very comfortable and welcoming introduction to your new home. Early September is also one of the most beautiful times of year in Sackville, so having extra time to spend outside on campus is a bonus!
Julie (she/her)
- Hometown: Dartmouth, Nova Scotia
- Year: 4
- Program: BSc major Biology, minor Biochemistry
- Advice for incoming students: My best advice is to find a balance between academics and social life. University will be the best times of your life. Don’t sweat the small stuff, especially grades because they don’t define your smartness (if that’s even a word).
Alex (he/him)
- Hometown: Moncton, New Brunswick
- Year: 3
- Program: BComm, minor Economics
- Favourite part of O-week: The Corn Boil!
Jamee (she/her)
- Hometown: Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia
- Year: 4
- Program: BSc Biology
- Advice for incoming students: Ask questions! It can be intimidating coming into a new place with so many unfamiliar faces; however, Mount A has one of the most welcoming environments and everyone whether on campus or in the town will try to help the best they can!
Sarah (she/her)
- Hometown: Calgary, Alberta
- Year: 5
- Program: BComm, minor Photography
- Why she loves MtA: Coming from Calgary, I personally love how small Sackville and MtA is. The tight knit community and friendly faces always bring a smile to my face! You will find friends that will become family and will create lifelong memories :)
Alexandria (she/her)
- Hometown: Kingston, Ontario
- Year: 4
- Program: BA Honours Psychology, minor French
- Advice for incoming students: Put yourself out there as much as you can in the first month, even if you're normally introverted; there are so many people looking for new friends and so many fun experiences planned by the Orientation team each year that you don't want to miss!
