The leaves are turning orange, the weather is getting colder, and the days are getting shorter, so you know what time of year it is…SPOOKY SEASON BABY!! Fall is my all-time favourite season and Halloween is hands down my favourite holiday, so here are some fun activities you can do to get in the spirit! During the school year, it is so important to do things that bring you joy and take your mind off of your studies for a little while. These ideas are not only meant to get you in the spooky spirit but, are also meant to be ways you can take breaks and do something fun with friends during this semester of online learning while practicing social distancing!

  • Make Halloween Pillsbury cookies – These are the best cookies ever! They are delicious and are so festive. The best part is you don’t even have to cook them in order for them to taste good! (beware of Salmonella)
  • Watch a Halloween movie – Some childhood classics include Halloweentown, Hocus Pocus, Twitches, Ghostbusters, and Scooby-Doo the Movie, but if you’re looking to find a new favourite I highly recommend Adam Sandler’s new movie Hubie Halloween
  • Go apple picking – Belliveau Orchard is a beautiful spot to go apple picking in Memramcook.
  • Carve/decorate a pumpkin – Carving pumpkins is so much fun, but if you’re like me and want to take the easy way out, there’s nothing wrong with painting and/or decorating them instead!
  • Go to a Haunted Corn Maze  The Riverbreeze Haunted Corn Maze is back in full swing in Upper Onslow, NS. It’s a bit of a drive to get there but I promise it is so worth it! They have full social distancing protocols in place in order to make it a safe, fun (and terrifying) event for all. Warning: if you don’t enjoy being chased by masked people carrying chainsaws, maybe sit this one out.
  • Go camping – A couple weeks ago, my friends and I went camping in Kouchibouguac National Park. There’s nothing better than enjoying the crisp fall air and having a campfire with the people you love! It was such an inexpensive ($6.50 each for one night) yet memorable trip. PSA: it was very cold so make sure to bring TONS of blankets and warm clothes!
  • Decorate your dorm/house/apartment – The Dollar Store has lots of cute and cheap fall/Halloween décor that will make your space feel extremely cozy and festive.
