Clubs & Societies at Mount A

Before coming to campus in my first year, I remember researching everything there was to know about Mount A; from what to bring to residence and virtual campus tours, to the clubs and societies that were offered! Although I was really eager to get to know the community and get involved on campus, I was also incredibly nervous and didn’t know how I was going to build up the confidence to join a club!
As soon as I stepped foot on campus and started orientation, I was having way too much fun to be nervous anymore! I recall attending the ‘What I Wish I Knew – Social Life’ panel during orientation and being inspired by how passionate all of the students were when they talked about the clubs or societies they were involved in. It was amazing how between the five student speakers, they talked about so many different clubs ranging from ultimate frisbee, to Model UN, to musicals and even mentoring kids on the weekends.
At the beginning of the semester, my friends and I decided to attend the clubs and societies fair. When we walked in, there was an instant buzz from all of the students talking to club leaders at their booths. I told my friend I’d try and work up the confidence to sign up for a club or two but after walking by the friendly and welcoming faces of all the club leaders, I left after putting my name down on about 15 different e-mail lists!
As the year went on, I found my favourite clubs and they are definitely the highlights of my week. From getting to be a ‘big buddy’ to a local Sackville kid to being a residence leader, I love how much getting involved has added balance to my life and introduced me to so many new people on campus and in the community! Reflecting back now, I realize that there is a club and society for everyone coming to Mount A and if there isn’t, there is so much encouragement for students to start their own, too! Overall, my advice to anyone would be to get involved in Mount A clubs and societies.
