Best Running Routes in Sackville

With the new Red Phase hitting us hard and a lot of amenities like the Fitness Centre closed for the foreseeable future, students at Mount A are in desperate need of some peace. A good alternative to the gym that gets you outside breathing in that fresh air are the following running or walking routes below. With so many online classes it’s easy to pass several hours (or days) stuck inside. Grab a friend and try one of these out for a new perspective on our sweet little town!

1. Waterfowl Park

This is a Sackville classic. The air feels fresher, somehow, as you jog through the calming birch boardwalks with little ducklings and geese on either side of you. Waterfowl can be kinda crowded if you go after the public schools get out or on a particularly nice weekend day, but waving hi to the little kiddos being pulled in wagons can be a good extra boost of serotonin. Depending on how long you want to go for, you might have to double up on some paths, but they’re all super pretty so it’s well worth it.

2. Broken Bridge

One of Sackville’s not-so-hidden gems. A straight route takes you right through downtown, which is a good way to check out which businesses are still open and what their COVID-19 restricted hours are. There are some very pretty houses up Bridge Street, too, so there’s lots to look at on this run.

3. The Cube

Sackville’s newest attraction! A giant 725,000 kilo steel freezer makes for a good goal when you’re running out of town. The route takes you around the entire main town of Sackville and hits all the highlights; Waterfowl, Bridge Street, Broken Bridge and, of course, the Cube.

4. Fairfield Road

A lesser known long stretch of pavement with some moderate hills to keep you on your toes. This one runs parallel to Charlotte and York street, so you can make as big of a loop as you want with Salem street.

5. Crossman Road

Another super long road that runs perpendicular to King, York, and Charlotte. This makes for some excellent circles; simply head down one of the roads mentioned above, turn left or right accordingly, and run your way back into our little town.

As someone who lived on campus for their first two years at Mount A, I thought that the school was all there was to see in town. Trying out one (or two!) of these routes will show you that there’s much more to Sackville than meets the eye. Now go grab your running shoes; on your mark… get set… go!
