Joining Fantasy Football

For three years I have been in a Fantasy Football league and I started out as the only girl in the league. My dad has always been very into football - to the point I couldn’t understand how all of my friend’s televisions were not constantly playing football games each Sunday afternoon.

Some people might say it’s a scam that you’re making a league so late in the season. Disregard them. It’s not even that late in the season PLUS since you waited you do not have to deal with all of the sad second week injuries (I’m looking at you Sutton and Saquon).

Now I probably haven’t convinced you at all why you should join or make a Fantasy Football league but here are a few reasons:

Every single Sunday I have something to look forward to. You don’t need to have a favourite football team because the boys on your roster are your favourite football team. Every year my team is subpar at best, but every year I get attached to my boys. A fun tip is if your league is on Sleeper you are able to give all your players nicknames, which I may or may not have for every single player on my team. Recently I learned that the Colts quarterback is not Patrick Rivers but rather Philip Rivers- all along I have been calling him ‘River of Dreams’.

That being said, you do not have to know a sweet thing about football. I know how to play the game and I enjoy watching it, but I don’t know what the Patriots coach of 1985’s middle name was? I don’t know his first name either but that is neither here nor there. Save your brain for important information like all of the course material you might be drowning in already and remembering your mom’s birthday. Don’t sweat the stats!

Picking a team is the most daunting thing about getting into fantasy football, especially if you join a league with a bunch of people who are really into football and have done their research. You don’t have to! Most platforms give you the next best pick each round so all you have to do is make sure you have filled all the spots on the active roster. It’s up to you what you do with the bench. Do some research if you want but it is by no means necessary.

Just have fun! Create a league with all your gal pals or your bros if you haven’t already and you can pretend you know the league better than the high school quarterback ever did. Like I said, you get attached to your team. Plus you don’t even have to watch the game because most fantasy football apps update you on the big plays your team makes and who cares about anyone else!
